After an introduction or meeting a person you are familiar with, we shake hands, right hand grasping tightly with right hand. This practice like many of our manners take us back to warrior days.
Earlier, when the two warriors met, they held firmly each of their weapon’s hand during peace and friendly meeting. By taking right hand of familiar hand, a warrior could assure that no weapon would be drawn. He confirmed that there will be no treachery when they met an opponent face to face.
The tradition has connection to the times of Chivalry. Knights used to remove gauntlets to show trust while greeting to each other. From here, it is considered as bad manners to wear gloves during the presence of royalty.
